I suspect that Erin Morgenstern found inspiration for The Night Circus in The Barnum Museum. That said, I preferred The Night Circus. Millhauser writes beautifully but the sheer amount of detail that he uses is sometimes overwhelming, and you wonder if he ever knew the direction that the story would take, and decided to meander until he found one.

Currently reading. I was reading it on my sister’s kindle over Christmas but she needed it back to access some textbooks so I had to request it from the library. The physical book is stunning though, the cover is really beautifully designed.
