"I wondered, for the first time in my life, if life was worth all the work it took to live. What exactly made it worth it? What's so horrible about being dead forever, and not feeling anything, and not even dreaming? What's so great about feeling and dreaming?"
- Jonathan Safran Foer (Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close)

There are some things that I’ve watched about a bajillion times and so think it will be a nice background that wont completely distract me from the task at hand. One of these is RENT (both broadway and the movie) and the other is the *NSYNC Popodyssey tour. Every single time I abandon my task because I cannot stop watching the show on my computer, and every time I fail to learn my lesson.

So, after watching the whole of Popodyssey (and the special features), I’m going to attempt to do something productive, and am determined not to allow myself to get distracted again. This will probably last about ten minutes.

Currently in the background as I attempt to write an essay: Rent filmed live on Broadway.
I cannot count how many times I have watched this DVD, or the film, or even the show. I will never ever fall out of love with it.

I’ve been thinking for a little while now that my tumblr is faceless. You can see that I like books from my (mostly very poorly written) book reviews, but I always unintentionally keep some of myself back. This is something I’m trying to change. So I’m going to try putting up some personal writing, but it may be a struggle. Mostly when I post anything like that, I take it down within 5 minutes.
I’m going to start by showing you something important to me. Musicals are my other great love. The postcard above celebrates my favourite musical, Rent. I bought it on our second Rent pilgrimage to New York City and the Life Cafe. I have seen the full version of Rent in New York twice, saw Rent Remixed in London 13 times, and have watched the movie countless times. It’s fair to say that I am obsessed. So what is it about Rent that makes it so special? It is not polished, its story takes a few viewings to completely understand and it is definitely not perfect. But the music is beautiful and powerful, and affects me in every way that it could, and its message is incredible.
Measure your life in love.
No day but today.
