"I wondered, for the first time in my life, if life was worth all the work it took to live. What exactly made it worth it? What's so horrible about being dead forever, and not feeling anything, and not even dreaming? What's so great about feeling and dreaming?"
- Jonathan Safran Foer (Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close)

Ava has been sending me inspirational texts to help me through the “argh I have a week left to write half of my dissertation” stage of essay writing. She says they’re going to get more philosophical as the day wears on. They started with:

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right”

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us”- Ralph Waldo Emerson ‎(What lies within you is your essay)

and I just recieved:

“the way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain” - Dolly Parton

I’m excited for the next quote, because that last one actually had me in tears.

Basically, you should all aspire to have friends like Ava.
