I love it when the charity shops have exactly what you want. I went searching for The Secret History today after Ava inspired me to reread it. I originally read her copy and this time I wanted to make notes in the book so I had to get my own. The other two were impulse buys but I’m very happy. All for a total cost of £3.50.

I suspect that Erin Morgenstern found inspiration for The Night Circus in The Barnum Museum. That said, I preferred The Night Circus. Millhauser writes beautifully but the sheer amount of detail that he uses is sometimes overwhelming, and you wonder if he ever knew the direction that the story would take, and decided to meander until he found one.
This wonderful bookplate arrived this morning, as one of the three copies of TFiOS that I preordered arrived unsigned.

As I read this passage, the rain at my window suddenly became louder and heavier, and died away seconds after I finished reading it. It was a little spooky, but lovely. I adore the sound of rain at my window.
